What Happens if I Pull This Lever?
2nd November 2009, Langebaanweg, South Africa
We can’t quite believe this guy survived this event but it proves that Woftam’s are pretty thick-headed …
A civilian passenger who went for a joy-ride in a South African air force jet with a friend, an experienced pilot, discovered what That Lever is for. Despite being briefed on ejection safety and the importance of not pulling the lever unless instructed by the pilot, he accidentally grabbed the eject lever of his rocket-powered seat whilst trying to steady himself after a manoeuvre. The unfortunate grab sent him hurtling out of the cockpit through the Perspex canopy and 100 metres into the sky. Luck was on his side as it turns out; a parachute deployed automatically and he landed with no serious injuries. It is believed that the rear cockpit of the aircraft was not so lucky with damage caused by the cartridge and rockets firing during the ejection.
