Far be it from us to judge the sexual habits of the world, but for goodness sake, if you’re going to do it, make sure its something you can retrieve yourself.

A 44-year-old man presented at hospital with bleeding from his rectum. He admitted to inserting a glass beverage bottle into his rectum but was unable to remove it himself.

This Woftam had a history of similar incidents in the past, all for sexual gratification. An x-ray revealed the bottle in his lower abdomen and pelvis. A rectal examination showed the base of the bottle.

Several unsuccessful attempts were made at manually removing the bottle using traditional methods. It was eventually extracted by a combination of the patient bearing down and doctors using obstetrics forceps to grasp the bottle when it began to emerge.  The patient sustained some minor anal tears but no colorectal injury. As he was a habitual participant, he suffered no major anal tears, incontinence or infection but was referred for psychiatric treatment.
