Concrete Rectum

June 6, 2010

Thank you to one of our readers who tipped us off on this story … she was one of the nurses involved at the time, amazing! Further research into the subject led us to this case report at the National Library of Medicine.

June 1987, USA

A 20-year-old man who presented to the emergency room complaining of rectal pain had a stony hard mass in his rectum on examination.

An abdominal plain x-ray revealed an opaque mass. Further questioning revealed had been fooling around with his boyfriend several hours earlier. After stirring a batch of concrete, the man laid on his back with his feet against the wall at a 45 degree angle while his boyfriend poured the mixture through a funnel into his rectum. The mass hardened and became painful, forcing him to seek medical attention.

He required surgery to remove the 275 gm concrete mass measuring 12cm x 7cm x 5cm. A layer of concrete was chipped off the upper part of the specimen, revealing a white plastic ping-pong ball.

The man was kept overnight, being discharged the following morning. He declined a psychiatric consultation.
