Dumbbell Penis
A man in his 50s who was attempting to increase the size of his penis, applied an inch-thick steel, ring-shaped dumbbell weight fastener to it. When it was unable to be removed, firefighters were called to saw it off … the ring, that is!
The Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach requested the Urban Search and Rescue squad from Costa Mesa, provide assistance to the man who had applied the ring two to three days before. He had applied the ring thinking that the weight from the steel object would make his penis longer. Unfortunately, for him, the steel fastener cut off the circulation to his penis preventing blood from flowing out of it and causing swelling. The swelling prevented the ring from being removed and his penis began to blacken from lack of circulation.
The man initially refused treatment, however, medical staff told him that the flesh on his penis would die if it wasn’t removed.
Firefighters in full surgical gear spent two hours sawing through the ring. They constructed a watering system to keep the sparks from the saw from injuring the patient as they cut the ring off. A piece of metal was slipped under the ring between it and the man’s penis to prevent any further injury from the saw.
