We think this Woftam might have learned that fire and accelerants don’t mix.

A 29 year old Indian man told police he was doused with petrol and set alight as he parked his car near his home early on 8th January.  He was treated for burns to 15 per cent of his body which involved his face, arms and hands. Subsequent police investigations caught him in a lie.

The man, who is staying in Australia on his wife’s student visa, is believed by police to have accidentally burned himself whilst setting his own car alight. Police allege that he was in financial difficulties and stood to gain $11,000 from an insurance claim on the vehicle. He came unstuck when arson chemists and hospital staff concluded that there were inconsistencies in his story in relation to his injuries, clothes and damage to the car. Further investigations found evidence in his apartment which led to an arrest.
