Safe Sex

If you think you can’t get pregnant with oral sex, think again …
A 15 year old South African girl, employed in a local bar, was admitted to Mafeteng Districts Hospital following a knife fight. She was stabbed after an altercation between her new boyfriend and her former lover. The argument erupted after she had performed oral sex on her boyfriend and was caught in the act by her ex.
Her injuries consisted of cuts to her hand and a single stab wound to the upper abdomen, causing two holes in her stomach. During surgery to repair the injuries, no gastric contents from the stomach were seen in the abdomen which was cleaned with normal saline as a matter of course. The girl was discharged from hospital after a few days.
Exactly 278 days later, the girl was admitted to hospital with acute, intermittent abdominal pain. Investigations revealed that she was pregnant, a miracle considering the girl was born without a vagina. An emergency caesarean section was performed and she gave birth to a baby boy.
It seems that the girl, who was aware that she didn’t have a vagina, had been participating in oral sex after being disappointed at conventional intercourse. She had never had a period and was unaware that she had been pregnant. The increasing size of her abdomen had caused her to consider the possibility of pregnancy but she without intercourse, she found it difficult to believe.
Discover Magazine suggest that a plausible explanation is that following oral sex, the injuries to her stomach allowed sperm to gain access to her reproductive organs. With saliva in her stomach contents and no food, the pH was suitable for the survival of the sperm till ovulation and subsequent fertilisation took place.
